(Heavenly citizens are blessed and protected by God because they belong to Him.)
SCRIPTURE READING AND DISCUSSION (15 minutes) Introduction: As we'll learn in today's lesson, we are not on this earth to go along with the crowd, but rather we are here to live lives that will make a difference for the glory of God. Read 1 Peter 2:11-12 (Strangers in the World) Discussion Questions: 1. How does Peter address the believers to whom he is writing? (Foreigners and exiles.) 2. According to our memory verse, Philippians 3:20, where does a believer's citizenship reside? (Heaven.) 3. What does Peter urge Christians to do? (Abstain from sinful desires.) 4. What do sinful desires do to our souls? (Sinful desires wage war against our souls attempting to destroy our peace and Christian witness.) 5. How does Peter instruct believers to live among the ungodly? (He instructs us to live good lives.) 6. What effect will godly living have on the world around us? (They may see our good deeds and glorify God.) CLASS EXERCISE (10 minutes) Standout (Activity) Click here

APPLICATION (4 minutes) God leaves us in the world to be His representatives, we should stand out as godly people. We will do well to remember that our citizenship is in Heaven and therefore, we will not fit in with the wicked ways of the world. Knowing we are foreigners in this world will give us the proper incentive to influence others for good.
