LESSON 5: WOMAN AT THE WELL

MEMORY WORK (10 minutes)
"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." Luke 19:10
Divide students up into three groups. The first group starts by saying "For the Son of Man". The second group then says, "Came to seek and to save". The third group finishes by saying "The Lost". Have the groups repeat the verse in this manner several times, then have all students say the entire verse together.
SCRIPTURE READING AND DISCUSSION (15 minutes) Introduction: In today's lesson, we will see how Jesus' love of an outcast changed her life and the lives of those around her. Read John 4:4-30 (The Woman at the Well) Discussion Questions: 1. At the well, Jesus asked a woman for a drink, what was her nationality? (Samaritan.) 2. Did the Jews typically associate with Samaritans? (No.) 3. What does Jesus offer the woman? (Living water or eternal life.) 4. How does Jesus respond when the woman said, "I know the Messiah is coming. When He comes, He will explain everything to us." John 4:25? (“I, the one speaking to you—I am he.” John 4:26.) 5. What does the woman do as the disciples return? (She goes to tell the people in her town about Jesus and share what He said.) Read John 4:39-42 1. How did many Samaritians come to believe in Jesus? (From the woman's testimony.) 2. How long does Jesus stay in the town? (Two days.) 3. What happens next? (Because of Jesus' teachings, many more Samaritians come to believe that He is the Savior of the world.)

APPLICATION (4 minutes) When something awe inspiring happens in your life, you can't help but share it with others. Sharing your testimony will help others come to believe that Jesus is the Savior of the world. God's love crosses over all boundaries, places, and people groups. God's love for His people cannot be contained.
