GOD'S RESTORATION
LESSON 2: FROM DEATH TO LIFE
We are brought from spiritual death to spiritual life when we believe in Jesus. by Leah Pittsinger
TOPICS Sin, Salvation, Restoration, Eternal life AS KIDS ARRIVE (10-15 minutes) Work it Out (Activity) Click here
OPENING PRAYER AND PRAISE (5 minutes) Further info? Click here
MEMORY WORK (10 minutes)
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 NIV Write the verse on the board and read it to the class. Then split the class into two or three groups and ask the children to come up with a way to excitedly “cheer” the verse. The groups may clap, stomp, or dance if desired. Then you may create new groups and ask the children to create new cheers until the verse is familiar.
SCRIPTURE READING AND DISCUSSION (15 minutes)
Introduction:
Last week we learned that we are no longer enslaved by sin once we believe in Jesus – we are free to choose obedience to God instead of sin. Today we will learn that we are also brought from spiritual death to spiritual life when we receive salvation. In addition, our physical lives on earth will be drastically changed when we have a growing faith in Jesus.
Read Romans 5:8-11, 1 Peter 1:3-9 (Sin leads to death, but belief leads to life.)
Discussion Questions:
1. How do we know God loves us? (Because He sent Jesus to die for our sins.)
2. What justifies, or makes us right, before God? (Jesus’ blood/sacrifice.)
3. What are we saved from? (God’s wrath/eternal separation because of sin.)
4. When are we God’s enemies and how are we reconciled, or reunited, to Him? (Our sin makes us God’s enemies before we know Jesus. To be reconciled, we must believe in Jesus.)
5. Why do we have living hope? (Because Jesus was resurrected and defeated death!)
6. Where is our inheritance? (In Heaven.)
7. Why do we face trials? (So, we will grow in faith and learn to honor and glorify God despite our circumstances.)
8. What is the result of faith? (Salvation!)
Conclusion: Because of Jesus’ death we have life! Even though physical death is a reality in our world, we can know the eternal, living hope that comes from believing in Jesus. God restores us to Him when we receive salvation. Sin leads to death but faith in Jesus brings life! If you would like to believe in Jesus and truly experience what it’s like to go from “death to life,” let’s talk together before the end of class.
CLASS EXERCISE (10 minutes)

ALTERNATE CLASS EXERCISE (15 minutes)
Greater than Gold (Game) Click here
APPLICATION (4 minutes)
Ask the children to think about how it would feel to be separated from their favorite pet, friend, or possession (it’s highly likely that all of the children have faced some kind of separation in their lives, so sensitivity is recommended). Help them use descriptive words to explain how they would feel (such as sad, scared, worried, etc.). Admit that separation of any kind is hard but being separated from God for all eternity is the worst separation of all. But the good news is we will be restored to Him when we believe in Jesus! We don’t have to fear separation because we know God will care for us and do what He’s promised.
NEXT WEEK
Come back next week to learn that God has the power to restore physical and spiritual loss.
