OPENING PRAYER AND PRAISE (5 minutes) Further info? Click here

MEMORY WORK (12 minutes)

"You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near." James 5:8 NIV

Have the children look us this verse in their Bibles, then practice saying it several times. Then have them close their Bible and answer who, what, why and when.

Who: You too What: Be patient and stand firm Why: Because the Lord’s coming When: Is near

SCRIPTURE READING AND DISCUSSION (15 minutes) Introduction: God had a plan to rid the earth of all the evil. But because Noah was a righteous man, and a man of faith, God included a way for Noah to be saved in his plan. The plan was to destroy the earth and every living thing on the earth with a tremendous flood. But to save Noah, God’s plan was for him to build a huge boat so that he and his family along with two of every kind of animal could survive the flood. Noah was not only righteous, as we learned last week, but he was also very patient. He had a tremendous amount of faith in God. Today we will learn about that faith. Read Genesis 6:11-22 Have the kids find Genesis 6:11-22 in their Bibles. Ask for volunteers to read the passage or if you prefer read the passage to the children yourself. Discussion Questions: 1. What did God tell Noah to do and why? (Build an ark, because he was going to destroy the earth) 2. Describe the ark in verses 14-16. (Made of cypress wood, having rooms, coated with pitch, 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, 45 feet tall, three decks, etc.) 3. How long do you think it took Noah to build the ark? (Unknown, but approx. 120 years passed from the time God first decided to destroy the earth and the day he told Noah to enter the ark.) 4. How do you think the neighbors reacted when they saw Noah building the ark? (Allow the kids to speculate) 5. How was God going to destroy the earth? (By flood) 6. Who would die in the flood? (All life, every living being except Noah and his family.)

APPLICATION (4 minutes) In Hebrews 11:7 the Bible says, “By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith."

It is not for certain how long it took Noah to build the ark. But we do know for sure that God did not unleash his wrath until the ark was finished. It would have been easy for Noah to give up. What a tremendous task. But with faith and perseverance, he received what God had promised him. Christians with real faith do not give up because something is hard or takes a long time. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. (Hebrews 10:36)

NEXT WEEK Many different animals are named in the Bible. But did you know that these are in the Bible? Wolf, goat, leopard, bear, cobra, weasel, mouse, lizard, skink, and mole (Isaiah 11:6-8; Leviticus 11:29-30) Next week we will discover more about the animals Noah had to bring aboard the ark.
