HEAD OR HEART KNOWLEDGE
This activity helps students get a better understanding of the difference between “Head Knowledge” and “Heart Knowledge.”by Lauren Shelnutt

PREPARATION:
Write “Head Knowledge” or “Heart Knowledge” in large letters on the Whiteboard and draw a vertical line in between them. Write the following things on brightly colored sticky notes:
• Facts, figures, formulas • Memorizing • Unconcerned • Desire to please God • Love • Prayful | • Joy • Sadness • Self-centered • Half-hearted • Reverent awe of God • Thoughtful |
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Pass out the Head or Heart Activity Page and scissors to each child. Instruct the students to fold the page on the solid line. Then, instruct them to cut on the dotted line of the page. Have students write the word KNOWLEDGE on the excess page below the flaps.
WHAT YOU WILL SAY:
There are two types of knowledge or understanding that we have when we learn things. We can learn things in our mind, and we can learn things in our hearts. A person with only head knowledge may know a lot about God but has a disconnect from the things he or she learns about God and the way that knowledge makes him or her act and feel. When a person has heart knowledge of God, it will impact every area of his or her life, influencing the way he or she thinks, behaves, works, studies, plays, treats others, etc. A person with heart knowledge truly wants to please God with the way he or she lives. The type of knowledge one has will be displayed by the type of fruit he or she bears.
Here, you have two pictures. As you color these pictures, I want you to think of words that you think of that can go under each flap. Lets, do a couple together on the board.
Show children a sticky note representing head knowledge and place it under this category on the whiteboard. Do the same for the heart knowledge column. Ask students to volunteer to come up and place the remaining sticky notes under the appropriate categories on the whiteboard. Then, ask the students to copy down the complete list under the correct flaps on their foldable activity page.
