（场景：乔气喘吁吁地在舞台上慢跑，他逐渐放慢脚步，步履沉重。）
马特：（追上乔）乔，加油！你能做到的！别放弃！
乔：（气喘吁吁）马特！我要不行了！我跑不完了！我得停下！
马特：乔，你不会不行的！别放弃，兄弟！我知道你可以的！
乔：（深深叹气，瞪了马特一眼，又开始跑。）
马特：就这样！(拍着乔的背) 只要调整好呼吸。吸气，屏住，呼气。吸，呼……
乔：（又开始慢下来）马特！我真的跑不动了！
马特：乔，你可以的！你记得我们在课上学的那节经文吗？
乔：（气喘吁吁，瞪着马特）不记得！
马特：（对孩子们说）孩子们！你们能帮我提醒乔我们之前学的那节经文吗？
如果孩子们正在学习雅各书1:12，可以让他们背诵。如果不是，可以让某人从圣经中读出这节经文。
孩子们：“忍受试炼的人有福了，因为他既受试验得了称许，就必得着生命的冠冕，这是主应许给那些爱祂之人的。”
马特：（再次对孩子们说）干得好，孩子们！谢谢你们！
乔：那又怎么样？！
马特：所以……我们完成任务后也会有奖励……如果你坚持完成！
乔：（兴奋起来）什么奖励？！
马特：冰镇柠檬水……还有我妈妈刚刚烤的巧克力曲奇！
乔：（笑着）嘿，我好像又有劲儿了。走吧！

Matt: | (Catching up to Joe) C’mon, Joe, you can do it! Don’t quit! |
|
|
Joe: | (Breathing heavily) Matt! I’m going to die! I can’t finish! I have to stop! |
|
|
Matt: | Joe, you’re not going to die! Don’t give up, Buddy! I know you can do it! |
|
|
Joe: | (Sighs deeply, then glares at Matt and starts running again.) |
|
|
Matt: | That’s it! (Patting Joe’s back) Just get your breath back to normal. Breathe in. Hold it. Breathe out, now in, now out... |

|
Joe: | (Starts to slow down again.) Matt! I just can’t do it! |
|
|
Matt: | YES YOU CAN JOE! Do you remember that verse we learned in class? |
|
|
Joe: | (Panting louder and glaring at Matt.) NO! |
|
|
Matt: | (Talking to the kids) Kids! Can you guys help me remind Joe of the verse we learned earlier? |
|
|
If the children are learning James 1:12, they can recite it from memory. If not, have someone read the verse from the Bible. | |
|
|
Kids: | “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him." |

Matt: | (Talking to the kids again) Good job, kids! Thank you! |

|
Joe: | So?! |
|
|
Matt: | So…there is a prize at the end of our job too… if you finish! |

|
Joe: | (Getting excited) What prize?! |
|
|
Matt: | Ice cold lemonade…and then chocolate chip cookies that my mom just made! |

|
Joe: | (Chuckling) Hey, I think I got my second wind. Let's go!! |
|
|
Both boys quickly run off stage. |
