FLYING FISH

With this Flying Fish craft, kids will make a colorful fish that spins and flies through the air.

Heavyweight brightly colored construction paperMarkers, scissors

DURATION:

Approximately 10 minutes

PREPARATION:

Cut the construction paper into strips 11 inches long and 2 inches wide. Cut slits at each end of the paper. The slits should be approximately two inches from the end of the paper. The slits should be on opposite sides of the paper.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

First, give each child a piece construction paper. Have them write their favorite verse on the slip of paper. If some kids don't have a favorite verse you may want to have several handy. It may be helpful to write a few verses on the board. You will also want to have the children write the church's address and worship times on the other side.

Next, have the children loop the slip of paper so that the slits are next to each other. Instruct them not to fold or crease the paper, as this will keep it from spinning. Slide the slits in the paper together to make a fish shape. When the kids throw the fish into the air it will spin to the ground.

Younger children have a lot of fun with this project. You can have a contest to see who's fish stays in the air the longest or which one goes the furthest. Encourage the children to share the fish with their friends when they get home. If time permits, the kids can make several spinning fish and then give them out to children in their neighborhood.
