Approximately 10 minutes

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Give each child a highlighter or a marker and a copy of the Word Winder puzzle. Explain how to complete the puzzle as follows:

All of the words listed at the bottom are somewhere in the puzzle. A column letter and row number indicates the location of the first letter of each word. That is the square where the particular word starts. Words do not go in a straight line. Instead, the direction changes in the middle of the word. The object is to find the next letter by going in any direction to complete each word, while highlighting or shading those squares. After shading the squares for each word, shade the squares that contain specific symbols as indicated on the puzzle instructions. The remaining unshaded squares will spell out the answer to the puzzle.
