Sample Index Card

1. Get a Bible and a pencil.

2. Find and sit down on chair number ##

3. Look-up and read the following verse:

4. What does this verse say about sharing

    Jesus with others?

5. Write an answer or draw a small picture

about this verse on the back of this card.

As the kids arrive, hand each one an index card, and instruct them to do what is written on it. Have the kids share their ideas or pictures for number 5 with the rest of the class after everyone has arrived.

OPENING PRAYER AND PRAISE (5 minutes)

Further info? Click here

If you used a prayer book during the first lesson, allow the kids time to review the names they wrote in it, and to add names of any other friends they would like to invite to church. Mention these kids by name in your opening prayer.

MEMORY WORK (12 minutes)

Matthew 10:2-4

This week the children will complete the project to memorize the names of the twelve apostles by memorizing Matthew 10:4. This verse contains the names of Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot. Practice saying these and all the names several times. Then allow some time for each of the kids to individually say the names of all twelve apostles from memory. Upon completion, they can be given a treat. You can also give an Award Certificate for their outstanding achievement. Click here

SCRIPTURE READING AND DISCUSSION (15 minutes)

Introduction:

For the past two weeks, we have been studying and memorizing the twelve apostles. This week, however, the Bible story is about only eleven apostles. Does anyone know what happened to the twelfth apostle? That's right, he was Judas, the one who betrayed Jesus and then killed himself. Our story today takes place right before Jesus rose into Heaven. He needed to give the apostles one last command, but this time with special permission to carry out God's will. A command with special permission, or in other words, a commission. But first let me ask a few questions.

Do any of you have a best friend? Of course. Well, how would you feel if your best friend had to move far away, or if you had to move far away? As Christians, we know that we are going to go to Heaven, but what would you do if your best friend said he or she didn't believe in Heaven? Let's read what Jesus had to say.

Read Matthew 28:16-20

Begin reading this passage, but have the kids read out loud together the words spoken by Jesus.

Discussion Questions:

1. When the apostles (disciples) saw Jesus on the mountain, what did they do? (Worshiped him, but some doubted.)

2. To whom has all authority in heaven and on earth been given? (Jesus.)

3. What did Jesus tell His disciples to do? (Go and make disciples of all nations.)

4. This passage is usually called, "The Great Commission". Why is this commission so great? (Because it is God's people doing God's Will to bring the Good News of salvation to the people in the world.)

5. What important thing in verse 20 must everyone be taught to do after becoming a disciple of Christ? (Obey His commands.)

6. How can we obey this command to make disciples of all nations? (Share the Good News of Jesus with everyone who does not know Him.)

APPLICATION (2 minutes)

Those who hear the Good News and take it to heart, can accept the free gift of salvation from Jesus Christ. We should live a productive life for our Lord. Please note that we cannot work our way into heaven, but if Jesus is the Lord of our lives we will want to live for Him. We will follow His rules and tell other people about Him. We won't be prefect, and we will still make mistakes, but we will try our best to live a life that is pleasing to God.

NEXT WEEK

Time for a new lesson! Make it count, make it fun!
