BIBLE VERSE (10 minutes)

Instead of an actual Bible verse, for this lesson have the children memorize “He Is Lord.” It is a simple yet powerful hymn that paraphrases Philippians 2:9-11. The first verse goes like this:

He is Lord, He is Lord

He has risen from the dead and He is Lord

Every knee shall bow  Every tongue confess

That Jesus Christ is Lord.To

As the children memorize the lyrics, explain to them the meaning of any words that they are unfamiliar, such as Lord, risen, and confess.

Discussion Questions:

1. Who is Lord of all? (Jesus.)

2. What other remarkable thing makes Jesus so special? (He rose from the dead.)

3. What will we do and say to show that Jesus is Lord? (We will bow our knees, and confess with our tongues.)

BIBLE STORY (15 minutes)

Gather the children around you in preparation for story time. After the introduction, read Paul's message to the Romans right from the Bible. If possible, use a Children's Bible so it will be easier for the kids to understand.

Introduction:

We already learned that Jesus is the Son of God, and then that Jesus is God. Today, we are going to learn how Jesus is Lord of all. Let's look in the Bible and read from the Book of Romans.

Read Romans 10:9-13

(As you read this passage, point to the different areas of your body as they are mentioned. Following is an example using the NIV:)

If you declare with your mouth (point to your mouth), “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart (point to your heart), that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart (point to your heart again) that you believe (point to your brain) and are justified, and it is with your mouth (point to your mouth again), that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes (point to your brain again) in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:9-13 NIV

Discussion Questions:

1. According to what we just read, who is Lord? (Jesus.)

2. What should we say with our mouths? (That Jesus is Lord.)

3. What should we believe in our hearts? (That God raised Jesus from the dead.)

4. Besides only saying that Jesus is Lord, what else should we do? (Believe it in our hearts.)

5. What will Jesus our Lord do for all who call upon Him? (He will richly bless them and they will be saved.)

6. What does it mean to let Jesus be Lord of your life? (Allow for answers.)

7. Should Jesus be Lord of your life only on Sundays, or everyday? Why? (Allow for answers.)

ALTERNATE FUN TIME (15 minutes)

Stop and Turn to Jesus (Activity) Click here

PRAYER/SNACK (10 minutes)

Further info? Click here

Bring a variety of healthy snacks for the children today. Before enjoying the treats, pray and thank God for His Son, Jesus. Mention in your prayer how everyone's diet is different, but Jesus knows what our bodies need. Pray that God will give us a desire to eat healthy. Close by inviting Jesus to be the Lord of our lives, and even over what we choose to eat.

CLOSING ACTIVITY (5-10 minutes)

Lord Jesus is Our Guide (Activity)Have the children pretend to be on a tour bus with Jesus as the guide. Explain how Jesus is there to show us which way to go and what to do when we get there. Have the children sit in rows on the floor, or arrange chairs to resemble seats on a bus. The teacher or an adult helper can be the driver of the bus. Pretend to explore exciting places all over the world. Get the kids involved by asking them what they see out the window, and to get their pretend cameras to take pictures or binoculars to see farther. (Examples of places to go: ocean, zoo, desert, mountains, national monument, etc.)

NEXT WEEK

I believe you will agree with me that Jesus is wonderful. He is God, God's Son, and Lord of all. Next week, we will discover something else very special about our Lord.
