GROWING FOR JESUS
LESSON 3: WORKING FOR JESUS
In this lesson, children discover that spiritual growth comes through serving others. They also learn that God desires everyone to work as if working for Him and with all of their heart.

AS KIDS ARRIVE (10 minutes) As kids arrive have a helper ask the the children to sit in a big circle on the floor. Ask the children what types of jobs their parents have. Do their grandparents still work, if so what type of jobs do they do? Lastly ask the children what types of jobs they may like to have when they are grown ups.

BIBLE VERSE (5 minutes)
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13 NKJV
Explain to the children that we can do all kinds of things with God's help that we could never do by ourselves. As we grow, God will give us many different jobs to do, but He will also give us the strength we need to do them.
BIBLE STORY (15 minutes) Gather the children around you in preparation for story time. After the introduction, read the passage from the Bible about working for the Lord. If possible, use a Children's Bible so it will be easier for the kids to understand. Introduction: God helps us grow in many different ways. God will give us jobs to do and these jobs will help us grow. God also gives us the strength we need to do these jobs. The Bible gives many examples of God giving His people jobs to do, sometimes the jobs were small and at others times the jobs were very big. Read Colossians 3:23-24 (Working for the Lord) Discussion Questions: 1. What does the Bible say about the manner in which we should work? (Work at it with all your heart.) 2. What does working at it with all your heart mean? (To do your very best job.) 3. The Bible also says to work like we are working for who? (God and not men.) 4. God sees the work that we do. What will we receive from God? (An inheritance or reward.) 5. What types of jobs do you have? (School work, jobs at home.) 6. Do you do these jobs with your whole heart? (Allow for answers.) 7. Do you do these jobs like you are working for God? (Allow for answers.)

PRAYER/SNACK (10 minutes) Further info? Click here Start by praying to God and thanking Him for His loving kindness and for helping us grow. Have a snack of pretzels. As the children eat the pretzels have them break them into different sizes and say "No matter the size of the job, big or small, God will help us get it done.
CLOSING ACTIVITY (5-10 minutes) As the children wait to be picked up, remind them that God has already started to give them jobs to do, jobs such as obeying their parents, helping others, and being kind to one another. We are also to do the job of asking our friends to come to church to learn more about God with us.
