HELLO, MY NAME IS...
Children have fun guessing whose name belongs to whom as they pretend to be like some very special people in the Bible.
TOPICS: Child of God, Paul
MATERIALS: Box of "Hello My Name Is" badges, Markers Small stickers or stars (optional) DURATION: Approximately 10 minutes
PREPARATION: The week before the lesson, ask parents of the children in your class to give you their middle name. (For example, Kristen might have the middle name of Nicole.) You might also want to remind the parents to make sure their child knows their middle name before going to church. If the child does not have a middle name, you can use their mother's maiden name or a favorite nickname.
Before class begins, write each middle name on one of the "Hello My Name Is" badges. Then, spread them spread all out on a table.
WHAT YOU WILL DO: When the children arrive, have them search for and put on their own badge. After locating their name badge, you can also let them decorate it with a few small stickers or stars. (optional)
For this class time only, call on the children using their second names, and encourage all the children to refer to each other using the name on their badges instead.
WHAT YOU WILL SAY: The Bible is full of stories about people with more than one name. For example Abram became Abraham. Sarai, his wife, became Sarah. Jacob became known as Israel, and Saul became known as the Apostle Paul. Today, we are going to be called by our second name, just like these people were in the Bible.
On the table, you will find a name badge with your second name written on it. It is probably your middle name. See if you can find it, and when you do, put it on. If you need help, just ask.
During our class time, let's try to use our second names instead. It will be fun.
