PASS THE BATON

Leadership changes hands quickly in this action packed game.

TOPICS: Following God, Serving

MATERIALS: Paper towel tube DURATION: Approximately 10 minutes

WHAT YOU WILL DO: Before Before beginning the game explain that there are many examples in the Bible where leadership was passed from one leader to the next. Cite examples of Biblical leadership changes as they pertain to your lesson. Some examples could include: Moses to Joshua, Elijah to Elisha, King Saul to King David, Jesus to the disciples.

Have the children stand in a circle with plenty of room between themselves and their neighbors. Explain that the cardboard baton will be passed from child to child around the circle in a clockwise rotation. As each child receives the baton they become the new leader and will call out an action that the rest of the class must follow. These commands could include some of the following actions: clap, jump, sit, pat your head, jumping jacks, touch your toes, reach to the sky, and so forth. When the teacher calls out, "Pass the baton" the current leader hands the baton to the next child and the process is repeated. Play continues until everyone has had a chance to be the leader.

Discussion Questions: 1. Name some of our current leaders. (Teachers, Pastors, Government Officials) 2. Do you think it would it be hard to be a leader in real life? Why or why not? (Allow for discussion) 3. What can we do to help our leaders? (Pray for them and ask God to help them be good leaders)
