Where Are You Saul?

Finding Saul may be tricky. In this game, children learn that God always knows where they are and they need not be afraid. by Kristy Thornton

TOPICS:

MATERIALS:

Pictures of Saul and baggage [PDF] Click here

4 plastic or styrofoam cups

tape, scissors

DURATION:

Approximately 10 minutes

PREPARATION:

Before class, print and cut out the pictures of Saul and the baggage. Turn the four cups upside down and tape the bags to the four cups making them look identical. Print one copy of Saul and cut him out.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

During class, turn the plastic cups upside down. With children watching tape Saul to the inside of one of the four cups. Make sure that all the cups remain upside down after this point. Have the children watch you mix the cups around and see if they can follow Saul’s hiding spot with their eyes.

Once you are done mixing the cups around, ask each child to guess in which cup Saul is hiding. When all the children have given their answers, reveal the cup where Saul is hiding.

Optional: You can subtract or add more cups to make it easier or harder.

Discussion Questions:

(If the children are not familiar with the story about Saul hiding behind the baggage, you can read 1 Samuel 10:20-24 to them before proceeding with the discussion questions.)

1. Where did Saul hide? (Among the baggage.)

2. Why do you think he was hiding? (Saul was afraid of being king because he knew it would be hard work.)

3. Do you think he had a reason to be afraid? (No, because when God calls you to do something He will give you everything you will need. You should be brave and courageous.)

4. What is something God might ask you to do that you might not want to do? (Listen or obey parents, share, use manners, etc.)
