A coloring activity to help the children learn that God loves them and knows them by name. By Kristy Thornton

PREPARATION:

Before class, print one copy of the star coloring page and cut out 12-14 inch lengths of yarn for each child. Also, print and cut out the Scripture slips. As an option, you can retype the verse and print out using an address label sheet. To save time during class, precut each star.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Part 1

Give each child a coloring page and crayons or markers. Have the children neatly write their names somewhere within the top half of the star. Then, have them color their star and finally cut it out. Instruct the children not to color inside the rectangle area, as this is where they will glue the verse sticker in part 2. As each child finishes his or her star, tape the two ends of one length of yarn to the back of the star to create a necklace. Do not tie the ends of the yarn together. The children can place their star around their neck to use as a nametag for the day.

Part 2

Write the following verse on the board.

"He determines the number of stars and calls them each by name." Psalm 147:4

Give each child his or her own Scripture slip to stick or glue onto the rectangle area of his or her star. Then, have students take turns standing up and saying their names while holding up their stars. Have the class repeat the Bible verse written on the board after each child stands and says his or her name.

WHAT YOU WILL SAY:

The Bible says, "He determines the number of stars and calls them each by name." Psalm 147:4.

Who do you think "He" is in this verse? (God)

That's right, God. God knows the name of every star in the sky, even the ones we can't see. If God knows the name of every star, then He knows your name too. You are more special to Him than all the stars in the sky.
