MATERIALS:

Doorway sheet [PDF] Click hereJesus cutouts [PDF] Click hereScripture cutouts [PDF] Click hereColored construction paperCrayonsScissors, glue

DURATION:

Approximately 10 minutes

PREPARATION:

Before class, print copies of the doorway sheet so you will have one for each child. Cut out the doorways and three sides of each door following the dotted lines. Also, print enough copies of the Jesus and scripture cutout sheets so you can give one Jesus and one scripture cutout to each child.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Give each child a piece of construction paper. Have them glue their Jesus figure down in the center of the paper. Then, place their doorway sheet over the construction paper so that the Jesus figure appears directly behind the door. Help the children glue the doorway sheet onto the construction paper, making sure not to apply any glue to the door. Then, help them bend the door back so it will open to reveal Jesus.

Next, have each child write his or her name inside the plaque above the door, for example, David's House or Diane's Home.

Finally, have the children glue their scripture verse over the white rectangle below the door.

WHAT YOU WILL SAY:

Jesus came to earth to save all who are lost. He is sitting at the right hand of God in Heaven right now, watching us, and praying for each of us. Jesus said, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me,” Revelation 3:20.

Discussion Questions:

1. When someone knocks at the door, why do we open the door? (Allow children to respond.)

2. If Jesus were knocking on the door of your house, would you let Him in? (Allow children to respond.)

3. Have you ever been so busy you didn't even hear a knock at the door? (Allow children to respond.)

4. Does anyone want to open the door and let Jesus come into your heart today? (Allow children to respond. Pray with those children that do. Father, thank You for your Son Jesus. Thank You for dying on the cross for me. Forgive me for all my bad choices. Come into my heart Jesus. I love You. Amen.)

When Jesus comes knocking at the door of your heart, we want to be sure we hear Him. We are going to make a craft to help us understand that Jesus wants all of us to open the door to our hearts when He knocks.
