The New Friend Game
How well do you know a friend? Students see how well they know a new friend by trying to guess how he or she will answer a few revealing questions. Topics: Friendship, Fellowship, Relationships, Icebreaker
Materials: Paper and pen for each student
Duration: Approximately 15 minutes
What you do during class: This activity is similar to the television game show "The Newlywed Game." Have the students get together in pairs, preferably with someone they do not know very well. This is a great opportunity for new students to feel welcome and for the class to get to know them better. To start, give the students about five minutes to simply talk with each other, but to include the following topics:
● What they want to do with their life ● What kind of things they enjoy doing ● What they like most about themselves
Next, have everyone grab a piece of paper and pen, and write down his or her answer to the following questions as they pertain to his or her new friend: 1. What type of vacation would your friend enjoy? a. Great shopping b. Relax in the woods c. Playing at the ocean 2. If your friend could change one thing about himself or herself, what would it be? 3. What is your friend's favorite thing to do for fun when he or she has time? 4. What animal is your friend most like?
Then, give the students a few minutes to write down what their answers would be to each of the questions if asked of themselves. The questions would be as follows: 1. What type of vacation would I enjoy? 2. If I could change one thing about myself, what would it be? 3. What is my favorite thing to do for fun when I have time? 4. What animal am I most like? Finally, have each pair of students compare answers to see how well they know each other. Have the winner of each pair of students come up and claim a small prize, perhaps something that comes in pairs such as Hostess Twinkies.
